GENERAL SERVICE MEDAL 1962 The British General Service Medal of 1962 was issued to those Australians with the Australian Army Training Team who served in Viet Nam prior to Australia's military commitment 1964 with clasp South Vietnam.

SOUTH VIETNAMESE CAMPAIGN MEDAL This medal was issued by the South Vietnamese government and is a foreign medal. The Order of Precedence places this medal is last in the medal/ribbon row. Foreign wards and medals are worn if officially recognised and gazetted by the Australian government. The precedence within foreign medals is set according to the date it was awarded. The qualifying period for this medal was 180 days in country, the exception being if repatriated home as killed or wounded. It is not available for those awarded the Vietnam Logistic and Support Medal. There are those who wear this medal with the VL&SM knowing that it is illegal and against all protocols. There is also those who are vigilant and bring this to the offenders notice who are termed "Wannabes". |

VIETNAM LOGISTIC AND SUPPORT MEDAL The Vietnam Logistic and Support Medal was established on 24 February 1993 to recognise the contribution of those who played a support role during the Vietnam Campaign. Recipients are drawn from both Defence Force Service personnel and others such as those whose role was to take care of the welfare, comfort and entertainment of Australian Defence Force personnel; the crews of Qantas aircraft flying into Saigon, and others. |

SERVICE MEDALS
Medals specifically struck and issued for military personnel who serve outside Australia on war-like service are issued the Australian Active Service Medal, non war-like service the Australian Service Medal. Each carries a clasp designating the region or country the service. |

AUSTRALIAN ACTIVE SERVICE MEDAL (Post 1975) The Australian Active Service Medal was established on 13 September 1988 to recognise service in prescribed areas. The award of the medal will be made with a Clasp to denote the prescribed operation and any subsequent award to the same person will be made in the form of a further Clasp to the Medal. Awards of the Medals and Clasp/s will be made by the Governor-General on the recommendation of the Chief of the Defence Force or his delegate. |

AUSTRALIAN SERVICE MEDAL (Post 1975)The Australian Service Medal was instituted to recognise service in a prescribed peacekeeping but non- warlike operation.
